Aon Risk Reward Challenge: Xander Schauffele

This week, we want to once again take you behind the scenes of one of our Aon projects, just to give you the sense of what goes into our work. This time, we’re taking a closer look at “All Systems Go with Xander Schauffele.”

As with our other player-focused Aon pieces, we had to work to visually display the thought process of one of the game’s top golfers. The narrative was about Schauffele determining how aggressively to go for it on a drive, taking in a multitude of factors. As he went through his internal process, we used techy graphics around his notepad to signal the calculations he might be making. Most important, though, was the drive itself.

We wanted to show how Schauffele’s actual swing was a culmination of all these different calculations, so we simultaneously used a swing tracker along with a list graphic of the factors. This helps put into perspective for the viewer just how many things are racing through a player’s mind while they line up a shot in a fun, compelling way. The sound effects, as well as the final “Decision Made” graphic, lean into the sci-fi, data-driven feel of the rest of our work. That’s also a unifying theme that strings together all of our Aon pieces, as we demonstrate the precise risk-reward calculations necessary to succeed in professional golf.
