Flashing lights. High stakes. Slick outfits. All are hallmarks of cinematic Las Vegas, and all are hallmarks of our "Viva Las Vegas" moodboard. It is once again Moodboard Monday, and this week, we are diving a little deeper into the inspiration for a project-to-be-named-later. For this original King Penguin content, we wanted to channel the glitz, glamour, and grit that is such a famous part of any great Vegas movie.
First and foremost, of course, is the casino. It's the reason people come to Las Vegas, and it's where (most of) the action is. There are so many iconic gambling scenes, so it was hard to narrow it down, but we focused in on what was really important to the styles of our project. The sharp tuxes, poker stare-downs, and palpable tension all come through on the screen -- and inspire us. Movies like Ocean's Eleven and Casino Royale immediately come to mind when we think of high rollers in the casino, so Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and James Bond (Daniel Craig) had to make our list.
The casino isn't the only thing that gives Las Vegas its distinct reputation, though. The Strip and the desert are two opposite but equally important factors in the character of Sin City. The hot, barren desert and the overwhelming brightness of The Strip are both stunning visually, and are fun to capture in art. Swingers and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas nicely capture the ends of the Vegas Spectrum (with The Hangover somewhere in the middle), and we loved diving back into those cult classics to capture the vibe we were looking for.
There is a long, long list of Vegas-inspired movies to look through, but we really tried to hone in on the films that would bring the right attitude and feel to the project we're working on. That's all we can say for now, but definitely keep an eye out for the King Penguin - Sin City crossover!
